what is love?

WHAT IS LOVE?

Love is born from the need to see oneself through another and feel loved. However, the truth is that love should arise from the need to know oneself to learn to love oneself. Only then, through awareness, can one create a space to see the other and learn to love them. Love, like any other learning experience, begins as confusing, painful, loud, and intense. It also causes uncertainty, but when the intention to love and know oneself is ignited from within, this becomes a motivation that travels from divinity.

LOVE BEGINS WITH A DECISION: DO I WANT TO KNOW MYSELF? DO I WANT TO LOVE MYSELF? DO I WANT TO LOVE YOU? LOVE IS EVERYTHING, BECAUSE ONCE THE DECISION IS MADE, ALL POSSIBILITIES OPEN UP AND THE OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD OUR OWN CONCEPTS ABOUT HOW WE WANT TO LIVE OUR LIVES.

FROM THIS LOVE FOR MYSELF, I ASK:

How do I take care of what I eat?
How do I take care of my body?
How do I take care of my thoughts?
How am I honest with myself?
How do I invest my energy in the things I really want to experience?
What kind of family do I want to build?
What kind of relationships do I want to have?

AND WHEN, KNOWING THESE ANSWERS FOR MYSELF AND FROM THAT CHOSEN FREEDOM, WE ADD: FROM THIS LOVE FOR MYSELF, DO I HAVE PATIENCE WITH MYSELF, TAKE CARE OF MY ENERGY, EMBRACE THE FAILURES THAT LEAD ME TO LEARNING, EMBRACE THE PAIN OF DISAPPOINTMENT AND KEEP OPENING MYSELF TO THE WORLD? BECAUSE NO ACTION OF OTHERS IS PERSONAL. I AM IN CONTROL, IN ABSOLUTE CONTROL, OF MY WORDS, OF MY ACTIONS, AND OF MY IMAGINATION. THAT BELONGS TO ME AND I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR IT.

AND WHEN WE GROUND THIS, WE CAN BEGIN TO INCLUDE THE OTHER:

How do I love the other?
How do I care for the other?
How do I communicate with the other?
How do I respect the other?
How am I honest with the other?
How do I express myself to the world?

Love is also letting go, it is trusting, it is acknowledging and asking forgiveness for our actions and words, when this is necessary. Love is also responsibility, it is feeling the deep pain when something is lost, but it is also seeing how that love transforms and comes back in a million different ways, wiser, more peaceful, calmer. Love is letting go of versions of ourselves that must go in order to make room for the new versions that we become. Love is validating, appreciating and thanking everything and everyone who has been part of our learning, through the mirrors of others. Love is a process of constant learning, it is accepting the reality of the emergence of things and others, trusting that it is part of something bigger that will make sense in our life path, from where we are now to where we want to go tomorrow.

Love is the answer to all questions, it is the gratitude for all the records of all life activity, it is the appreciation of life. And even as a student of love, it is my final destiny to experience this permanent and eternal state of the greatest quest of all time: love.
